Racialized and Gendered Disparities within the Child Welfare System

Join Abigail Williams-Butler as she gives an overview of the field of social work, child welfare, and racial disparities within the child welfare system. Williams-Butler will focus on how race, gender, and class oppression have led to key child welfare policies that have precipitated the overrepresentation of Black women and children in the child welfare system. The talk will be moderated by Ruby Gourdine of Howard University, who has a wealth of clinical and research experience regarding racialized and gendered disparities within the child welfare system. A question-and-answer session will be moderated by Rutgers doctoral student Kate Golden.
