Rutgers Day at Mattie’s Diner
Hey Charlotte Rutgers Alumni,
Here is your chance to re-experience the feeling of a real New Jersey diner. Saturday October 15th between the hours of 7am-9pm for Rutgers Day at Mattie’s Diner! Stop by the restaurant any time during the day to re-experience an authentic New Jersey diner and grab a familiar meal. Introduce your friends, family, colleagues or associates to a Jersey made New Jersey Diner here in Charlotte.
Mattie’s Diner, owned by Matt King, a Livingston College graduate class of ’92 has re-opened his diner in Plaza Midwood. In 2005, he purchased the Bound Brook Diner (built in 1940’s) in NJ, moved the original car to Charlotte NC, spent some time renovating then opened doors in 2010. Mattie’s Diner operated until 2015 when the land it operated on was sold.
Mattie’s Diner is back in a new location along the Plaza in Charlotte. The original car is still there, along with the vintage dining-car dings, and traditional menu. Matt has also said that he has been exploring new vegan options.
At the diner and online we will be collecting small donations for a local non-profit that helps students get into college, the Carolina Youth Coalition. The Carolina Youth Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that nurtures and propels high-achieving, under-resourced students to and through college. Your donations will go towards assisting high-achieving students in attending college and raising awareness for Rutgers University.
In addition, R Magnets and other items will be available for Rutgers Alumni in attendance. Provided by the Rutgers University Alumni Association.
