Now is a great time to join our virtual book club, a free program we offer to members of our Rutgers community. We are now over 1,500 readers strong! You’ll find the book club is a way to continue your journey of lifelong learning by reading both entertaining and informative titles and encountering authors you would not ordinarily read.

We will begin reading Long Bright River by Liz Moore on May 27. Long Bright River is a “powerful and genre-defying” (People) novel set in a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis. Two formerly inseparable sisters live in the same area but lead drastically different lives: Mickey is a police officer, while Kacey suffers from addiction and lives on the streets. As children, they were inseparable, but now they barely speak. All of that changes when a mysterious murderer targets women in the area and Kacey goes missing. Drawing on deeply personal volunteer work, Liz Moore spins a story that both graphically honest and dignified. Long Bright River puts a very human face on the effect that addiction can have on generations of families and communities.
