Standing Against Hate

The Rutgers community mourns the tragic death of Christina Yuna Lee, who was killed in her apartment in the Chinatown area of Manhattan early Sunday, February 13. Lee, who graduated from Livingston College in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in art history, most recently worked as a senior creative producer at Splice, an online platform for digital music, according to news reports. From 2007 to 2008, Lee worked as an engagement ambassador for Rutgers’ Telefund.

NYC police said that Lee was followed into her building by a man in the street who fatally stabbed her and have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with her killing. As the latest person of Asian descent injured or killed in a string of random attacks in New York City, her death has received national media attention.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the stabbing horrific Sunday afternoon, “The suspect is in custody, but the conditions that created him remain,” he said in a statement. “We stand with our Asian community today.” The Rutgers community does as well.
