History
The second instructional building to be constructed at Rutgers, Van Nest Hall was erected in 1845 and named for Abraham Van Nest, a New York City merchant and devoted trustee of Rutgers College. Over the decades the structure has served a wide range of academic and administrative purposes.
Respectful renovation has retained the building’s historic character, and Van Nest Hall still holds its time-honored place of prominence in New Brunswick’s College Avenue neighborhood.
