Inclusion and Diversity Committee

This committee will work to engage a diverse alumni base in all RUAA activities. The committee will cultivate engagement through outreach strategies that encompass diverse constituencies defined as (but not limited to): academic, ethnic, geographical, demographic, recent and milestone graduates, and undergraduate and graduate degrees including professional and health science schools.

Time Commitment:

  • One year appointment, with the option for reappointment
  • Three meetings per year, or as needed

Volunteer Role:

  • Build a strategic plan for the committee that addresses the following priorities:
    • Develop and implement strategies to fill leadership roles with diverse alumni talent
    • Bring a variety of perspectives to committee discussions that drive diversity as an integral aspect to all of the RUAA’s goals and practices
    • Educate a diverse population of constituent and university groups about roles and opportunities within the RUAA
    • Use data-driven decision making to recommend strategies to engage students and young alumni with the RUAA in a relevant way

Nominations Committee

This committee is charged with recruiting and identifying volunteer leaders and recommending a slate of future members for the RUAA Board.

Experience Required

  • Previous RUAA volunteer/leadership experience

Time commitment

  • One year appointment
  • One to two meeting per year, or as needed

Volunteer Role

  • Utilize business and volunteer experience to help identify, recruit, and make personal recommendations regarding volunteer leaders for RUAA Board roles.
  • Evaluate and prepare a slate of candidates for the RUAA Board and its officers.
  • Monitor nominations process to ensure fairness and equity, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

Philanthropy and Service Committee

This committee represents and advises the RUAA in creating a culture of philanthropy at Rutgers.

Experience Required

  • Previous RUAA volunteer/leadership experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting Rutgers through personal philanthropy

Time Commitment

  • One year appointment, with the option for reappointment
  • Three to four meetings per year, or as needed

Volunteer Role

  • Develop a plan to attain 100 percent giving participation within the Alumni Leaders Council, the leadership of the RUAA’s chartered organizations, and RUAA award recipients.
  • Serve as a resource to the Rutgers University Foundation’s Department of Annual Giving and its student philanthropy initiative.
  • Provide feedback on increasing alumni propensity to become donors.
  • Recommend methods to build a culture of philanthropy within all RUAA programs and initiatives.

Awards and Recognition Committee

This committee is charged with recognizing alumni efforts and accomplishments on behalf of RUAA and the university.

Time Commitment

  • One year appointment, with option for reappointment
  • One meetings per year, or more frequently as needed

Volunteer Role

  • Utilize business and volunteer experience to advise on volunteer recognition, process, and selection of awardees.
  • Ensure that sound policies, practices, and monitoring mechanisms exist for the awardee selection process.
  • Review the past performance of recognition programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend methods to promote Rutgers recognition events and ensure attendance goals are met.
